I got to thinking - where could the zygons have got their shapeshifting abilities? They obviously aren't natural, as they need technology to implement the changes and form the body print.
So, I thought, maybe in their deep past they came across the ancestors of the Rutan host, whilst out scouting. The zygons would have seen the tactical advantage to being able to shape shift, and as their technology is based on organics, they would have found it relatively easy to adapt the rutan chameleon cells into their organic crystallography.

That's how it played out in my head, anyway. And here is the first meeting - who has the stronger sting??

And this is my last zygon post, ever.

Probably ;)

Excellent stuff, now I know what a Rutan looks like! All very nicely rendered in an atmospheric location

The Rutan I'd made out of half a cat toy, some builder's silicone sealant and an L.E.D. Took about half an hour to do. Does the job, though, lol

Brilliant use of found materials; just like those FX geniuses working on WHO in the 60s and 70s, you're honouring a fine tradition here!

I used to be props man on amateur videos, and as we had literally no budget, I became a dab hand at using all sorts of junk to make the props. I once built a submarine control room out of corrugated card, and you wouldn't know!
In fact the writer/directer has just had his first feature released on DVD. It's called Harold's Going Stiff, and I highly recommend it.

Well those skills are well on display here! Thanks for the tip-off about the film.

Two awesome foes from the classic series!

As the Sixth Doctor said in a different context, "My money's still on the Rutans."

Yeah, the Rutans would kick ass, but I had in mind that these would be an innocent, non-warlike ancestor of the Rutans fighting the Sontarans.
It's in my head as an outline, but I'm rubbish at writing, so I guess that's where its gonna stay

I think you could be right, there. Never considered it before. Mind you, I've got a huge 'to do' pile, that just keeps growing, and any paying work gets precedence. Not that there's much of that :(

Thanks for your comment, cheered me up no end :D
